Everyday life is a physical space in which we divide the time we live into slices and create ourselves, and it is important in terms of showing the cultural and mental structure of the period it is in and embodying the social one by acting as a mirror.
“When Nothing Happens”, the contemporary art project of the Yellow Submarine Art Initiative supported by Space of Culture, departs from Georges Perec’s question “What Happens When Nothing Happens?”
It tries to look at our life again which is getting narrower in today's conditions within the dynamics and rhythm of daily life, in order to question the ordinary, the common, the things that seem insignificant and worthless in our daily life and have ceased to amaze us..
It follows the traces of those who seep through the ordinariness of daily life, takes a close look at the "things" we live with every day, and intends to disrupt the flow of routines.
By bringing together independent artists from different disciplines, it takes a closer look at the system that feeds daily life, the ordinary, and the things we’ve never thought about, through the testimonies of the artists, their transfer of experience or their intuitive production. Inspired by the avant-gardes' desire to combine art and life, it aims to create an atmosphere of dialogue and discussion.
The first module of the contemporary art project, which started in May and was completed in November, covers the online talks of 10 invited artists, "When Nothing Happens, Art of Everyday Life Talks", and the second module covers the exhibitions of 12 invited artists; one at the Çatı Art Space in Izmir, Konak in October and exhibitions spanning the daily life of Bergama in November.
